About Toolbox
Toolbox is a preventative mental health initiative that strengthens the network of trusted rural touchpoints surrounding farmers and agricultural workers.
Rather than expecting farmers to access formal services, Toolbox recognises that they are far more likely to engage with people they already know and trust through their daily lives. Agricultural engineers, vets, livestock markets, country stores, feed merchants, hauliers, agricultural contractors, accountants and rural hospitality businesses all have regular contact with farming communities.
By equipping these trusted touchpoints with the knowledge, confidence and practical tools to recognise signs of poor mental health, have supportive conversations and signpost people towards appropriate support, Toolbox creates a stronger community safety net around farmers before problems reach crisis point.
Alongside this wider network-building work, Toolbox will provide focused 1-to-1 support for individuals who need help navigating the range of professional support available. People may be referred into this support by trusted touchpoints who have identified a concern through everyday contact, or they may be identified directly by the Toolbox team through outreach, events, follow-up conversations or community engagement.
This 1-to-1 support will not replace clinical, financial, legal or specialist advice. Instead, the project will help people understand their options, make informed choices and connect with the most appropriate professional providers, such as mental health services, farming charities, financial advisers, debt advice, business support, bereavement support, housing advice or other relevant local and national services.

Facilitating events and follow-up conversations to strengthen community ties and raise awareness about the help and support available through Toolbox.
