Staying safe online has always been important. However, with an increased reliance on the Internet – and with 9 in 10 people in Leicestershire and Rutland now regularly using it – for online shopping, banking, accessing other services, and for socialising, so the opportunity for criminal fraudsters has also increased.
Most of us probably think we are safe online, but how many of us actually do implement those safety devices, for example using different passwords for different accounts? Would we know how to spot an online scam? Even if we are ‘cyber-aware’ to the potential for fraud, are we confident that our friends and family are safe online. Do we think we could help others, perhaps the elderly or more vulnerable members of our community, to become more safer in the online world?
