Visioning
Visioning is a quick way of finding out the views of local residents on issues affecting their community, relating to the past and present. This method can also be used to find out peoples views on one particular topic such as transport or the environment. Visioning may lead to more ‘in depth’ methods such as Appraisals, Design Statements or Parish Plans in the future. The event usually takes place over two evenings in consecutive weeks and participants attend both evenings.
Members of the community, who have been chosen randomly, are invited, in a fun way, with the use of workshops, to review their community and how it evolved in the past to bring it to what it is in the present. The future of the community is discussed, which is the most important part of the event, this forms the vision for the future of that community. This then produces a number of achievable objectives, which can make that vision a reality. Through partnership working, with service providers and the local community, it is possible to identify who can help to develop the ideas into reality.
A charge is usually made by the RCC for undertaking a visioning exercise (please contact us for details).
How the RCC can help
- The Community Development Officer will liaise with organisations in the village and/or service providers to plan the project.
- They will research the village and select randomly members of the public who are interested in attending.
- Arrange a venue for the event and all the necessary equipment.
- Advertise the event widely.
- Send out invitations and collate responses.
- Arrange the event on the day providing refreshments
- Facilitate the workshops which will help the community to build their own vision for the future of their community.
- Produce a summary report which will be circulated to all participants.
- Produce a full report which will be made available to anyone on request to the RCC
