Social events, trips and outings

The Rutland Community Spirit team is working with local residents, clubs and schools to organise social events for people over the age of 60 living in rural Rutland. If you would like details about any of the activities below, contact the team on 01572 720282.

Mostly Men on Mondays

Mostly Men on Mondays provides an opportunity for older men, who may live alone and have a background in uniformed services, to enjoy the company of like-minded individuals at a regular social group that meets in Oakham and Uppingham on Mondays.

The group meetings provide an opportunity to listen to guest speakers - from RAF fighter pilots and serving personnel at St Georges and Kendrew Barracks, to the experience of men serving in the Coldstream Guards and Indian Army. There is a full schedule of activities planned, including outings to cricket matches and race courses, gentle exercise, singing, listening to music, swapping stories and playing cards, chess or dominoes.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in joining Mostly Men on Mondays, please download the information leaflet, or call Christine Ward on 07553 304696, email cward@ruralcc.org.uk.

Day trips

A full schedule of day trips has been planned throughout 2013, all of which are subsidised by the BIG Lottery fund.

The trips cost between £4.00 and £13.00 per person and are suitable for able-bodied people over the age of 60 living in Rutland. If you live alone, or in a remote location they can provide a friendly and sociable situation where you can experience new things and meet new people.

Future trips include a visit to Denby Pottery, French bowls in Stamford and days out to Foxton Locks and the seaside in Hunstanton.

The cost of each trip includes entrance fees where applicable and transport - we pick up at Tesco's, Oakham and the Co- operative, Uppingham. A £5.00 deposit is required to book a place. Contact 01572 720282.
