"Multum In Parvo"
Communities across Rutland have been involved in the Parish Plan initiative since it was launched in 2001. Below is a brief table showing the settlements that have embarked and successfully completed a Parish Plan.
The initiative continues to be supported by Rutland County Council as a key method of consultation with communities that can help shape policy and service planning for the future.
Ryhall
Ryhall rests in one of the far flung corners of Rutland on the Linconshire/Cambridgeshire border. The local community nonetheless has demonstrated that it wants to take action for itself. Following a public meeting on 22nd May of this year, Ryhall residents have decided to update their Parish appraisal that was completed in the millennium year. The main focus of consultation will take place at the Annual Gala day on 31st August with a particular emphasis on ‘Planning for Real ®’. Local residents who are not able to attend are invited to the library where the Planning for Real ® map will be on display from 1st – 7th September or post comments in the suggestion boxes dotted around the village.

Tinwell
Following a public meeting in July 2006, the community agreed to take forward the proposal of a Parish Plan. The village, with a population of just under 200, currently has a Parish Meeting but is considering introducing a Parish Council in response to a rise in population.
Presently, data from the questionnaires which received a terrific response rate of 98% has been analysed and the final amendments to the written report are being made. Already Tinwell residents have been given a taste of what is to come with the action plan which has now been delivered to every household.
An official launch of the Parish Plan will take place in the next couple of months, the date of which is to be confirmed.

Whissendine

Whissendine Parish Plan logo
Around 150 people, of all ages, attended a public meeting in March 2007 to consider the proposal to undertake a Parish Plan and to learn more about the Whissendine Youth Forum. Happily, enough support was generated to form a steering group and great progress has been made.
The group has devised both an adult, youth and 7-10 year olds questionnaire, the results of which are currently being analysed.
However, Whissendine has been keen to consult with people of all ages throughout the process rather than relying solely on the use of a questionnaire. Feast week, the focus group, logo competition and the ‘Planning for Real ®’ exercise, in conjunction with the local primary school, all go to illustrate the measures that the steering group have taken to keep the community involved

Uppingham

The beautiful market town of Uppingham represents the second largest settlement in Rutland. With a population of around 4000, Uppingham has a thriving commercial centre whilst education is a key element of life in the town.
The steering group officially launched their Parish Plan on October 24th 2007 to a packed Town Hall. Although some of the recommendations made will take time to implement and are long term objectives, some of the points contained within the action plan have already come to fruition. The number of beat Bobbies has doubled, refuse collection day has been changed (so as not to coincide with Market day) and the young people of Uppingham are currently putting together a plan to improve the skate park.

Cottesmore Launch 3rd September 2007
Tony McClelland hands over PP to Rob Toy, Chair of PC
On Monday 3rd September, Cottesmore officially launched their Village plan. The culmination of two years hard work was in evidence and around 70 people from the village came to show their support.
Already, many of the recommendations made in the report have been initiated and there has been a flurry of activity in the formation of many new groups and societies.
Tony McClelland, Chairman of the steering group said, “I am delighted to have been involved in this project and I hope that it plays an integral role in the future development of our community.”
The remaining action points are jointly being implemented by the Parish Council and the original steering group.
