Market Overton Parish Plan

Market Overton is an ancient village with archaeological finds ranging from a Roman pottery kiln to an Anglo-Saxon cemetry. The Parish Plan was completed in 2005 and of the 460 population, 58% of adults and 48% of youth responded to the questionnaires.

One of the key successes of this Parish Plan has been 13 affordable housing units which are to be developed in the village and which came about as a direct result of the community taking part in the Parish Plan process.

Below is the action plan arising from the Parish Plan.

Explore use of play area with group outside 0-11 age group.

Provision of new equipment for the Play Area to be considered.

Environment

Review provision for recycling in the village.

Consider planting wild flowers within the village.

Target action to reduce litter in hotspots.

Provide suitable bins to deal with dog fouling in identified areas.

Feedback concerning poor state of footpaths and bridleways.

Request OAPs in village invited to RAF Cottesmore Christmas lunch.

Communications

Welcome Pack to be formulated.

Advertisement notice boards to be improved.

Identify possibility of having Market Overton report in local paper.

Minutes of Parish Council Meetings - to go in Outreach and/or Web.

Funding and compilation of Outreach to be reviewed.

Housing Needs

Development to be Infill/Conversion.

Housing to be affordable or small family homes.

Transport and Highways

Review possibility of car sharing.

Consider replacing bus service with taxi service.

Ensure current school bus provision continues.

Consider additional school transport schemes, e.g. encourage car sharing.

Traffic isues related to Industrial estate to be addressed.

Identify wasys in which to provide footpath to Doctor's surgery.

Consideration to be given to making some areas in the village 20 mph.

Consideration to be given to moving 30 mph signs further out of the village to reduce speed.

Safety concerns in Bowling Green Lane to be addressed.

Parked car hazard at junction of main street and Thistleton Road to be considered.

Move Bus Stop to be on the bus route.

Consider removal of extraneous signs from village.

Safety and Security

Address concern about cars parked on pavements and verges.

Provide occasional visible policeman on foot. More contact with Police.

Religion

Allow Church clock to strike daylight hours.

Increase use and support of Church buildings.

Request improvements to condition of tennis court.

Youth

Provide Youth Club.

Consider additional activities of Summer disco, Halloween party and New Years Eve party.
