Scraptoft Action Plan - 2009

Scraptoft

Scraptoft's Community Action Plan was completed and published in March 2009 and has now been distributed throughout the Parish. The steering group volunteers have now moved on to oversee and facilitate the implementation of the action plan with many of the concerns raised already being tackled.

Key Outcomes to Date...

A thriving Neighbourhood Watch scheme is now in full flow, hedges have been cut back around the Village Hall, volunteer litter picks have been held and the community have taken part in a Community Speed Watch Programme.

Tilton & Halstead

Tilton & Halstead Parish Plan - 2008

Tilton & Halstead Launch Event

A vibrant steering group began the process of producing a Parish Plan following an open meeting in September 2007. A wide range of consultation techniques were used including; an ideas wall, suggestion boxes around the parish, a Facebook account, a Youth Questionnaire and finally an Adult Questionnaire (which recieved a healthy response rate of 56%). The steering group worked hard to complete the Tilton & Halstead Parish Plan within just 12 months and held a launch event in the Village Hall in September 2008. The volunteers have now split into sub-groups to help drive forward some of the projects & to help tackle the issues identified in the Action Plan.

Key Outcomes to Date...

Free Tennis coaching for young peopl is now provided by 2 local volunteers, volunteers have taken part in 2 successfull Community Speedwatch schemes, Tilton Youth Council has been established involving 12 local young people and volunteers are working alongside the Village Hall Committee to improve the village Play Area.

Tilton Green was formed by volunteers from the Tilton & Halstead Parish Plan group with the aim to raise local awareness of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency. In July 2008 The group successfully applied to become a ‘Climate Friendly Community’ with funding and support from ENABLE (Environmental Action for a Better Leicestershire) and Leicestershire Rural Partnership. The group have also been successful in gaining £6,907 of a £10,000 grant fund from GOEM (Government Office East Midlands) to help communities to tackle climate change issues and to become greener.

Film showing of 'An Inconvenient Truth in the Village Hall.
'Tilton Green Fayre' held to provide money saving, energy efficiency and recycling adivce.
Over £500 of Energy Saving Lightbulbs sold throughout the community.
Free 'Tilton Green' reusable cloth bags distributed.
Grants provided for home insulation and energy assessments.
Recycling Drop Off Days held at Village Hall.
Energy Saving Competitions.
Quarterly 'Tilton Green Newsletter' sent to every household.

Tur Langton

Tur Langton Parish Plan

Tur Langton Parish Council are hoping to initiate a Parish Plan project within the community and will be looking for volunteers to help form a steering committee. It is envisaged that a Parish Plan Open Meeting will be held in early January 2010.

Ullesthorpe

Ullesthorpe Parish Plan - 2009

We Love Ullesthorpe Event

Volunteers in Ullesthorpe began consulting with residents in 2007, received a healthy 50% response rate to their initial questionnaire and attracted over 200 people to a consultation event held in March 2008. The steering group have now analysed the results of the public consultation and published a final report and action plan. The official launch of the Parish Plan took place in February 2009 and was based around the theme of "We Love Ullesthorpe". The event was well supported by the community and included a stage show involving local school pupils, members of the kids club and older residents talking about their memories of the village.

Key Outcomes to Date...

Development of the village webpage www.leicestershirevillages.com/ullesthorpe which is managed by local volunteers and recently won an award for Community Engagement. Volunteers have been identified to take part in a number of community led projects including a village litter pick. New Activities for Young People have been initiated including the establishment of a Girls' Club. Ullesthorpe Environment Group

Following the launch of the Ullesthorpe Parish Plan in February 2009 a group of local volunteers formed the Ullesthorpe Environment Group. The group are planning to focus on a number of community led projects to improve and maintain the local environment and to raise awareness of Energy Efficiency and Climate Change.

Save Money Go Green Event
Save Money Go Green Event - October 09
A successful event organised in partnership with the RCC to raise local awareness of Energy Efficiency & Climate Change and to promote the countywide 'Big Switch Off' campaign. The event attracted over 80 visitors including local MP Andrew Robathan and Councillor Rosita Page. Stand holders included Energy Saving Trust, Severn Trent, BTCV, & Leicestershire Food Links along with local food organisations such as Naturally Good Foods, Lutterworth Freecycle, Ullesthorpe Windmill, Ullesthorpe Playing Fields and the Village Website.

Funding for this event included £250 from the 'Big Switch Off' group and a share of a £2500 SHIRE grant awarded by Leicestershire County Council.

Community Litter Pick
Community Litter Pick - 31st October 09
33 volunteers turned out to offer their help at the Ullesthorpe Community Litter Pick on 31st October 2009. Armed with grabbers, black sacks and gloves provided by Harborough District Council groups of volunteers collected over 30 bags of litter from around the village along with 6 tyres, 3 bikes, 4 traffic cones and a toilet!!
