Earl Shilton for Sustainability

Plastic bag free day in January 2011
Earl Shilton for Sustainability aims to raise awareness of climate change whilst encouraging residents to shop locally. Their efforts have focussed on a Big Switch Off Day and a Plastic Bag Free Day. In the long term with involvement from schools and community groups they hope to encourage residents of all ages to think about their carbon footprint and get involved in future projects.
The group was set up with the support of Earl Shilton Business Forum and supported by Communities Cutting Carbon and Earl Shilton Town Council.
Activities
- In January 2011, the group organised a plastic bag free day, distributing over 1000 reusable jute bags to local residents.
- In December 2010, a stall was held at the Earl Shilton christmas lights switch on, featuring free bike-powered smoothies and information about the upcoming January event.
