Heather Sports Area and Youth Shelter
Heather has just opened their multi use sports area and youth shelter. David Taylor MP praised the young people who had been involved in choosing and gaining funding for the area.
Jan Shepherd Parish Council Clerk explained that as a result of the Parish Council instigating the Parish Plan the Parish Council became aware of the need for some youth facilities in the area and a fund was identified where young people could apply themselves for funding – working with the youth service the young people set about designing the facilities – consulting with other young people and submitting their grant application.
The process of funding was quite rigorous and some of the young people had to go along to County Hall to give a presentation about why they needed the fund. The successful result was a grant of over £50,000 that has been used to fund a multi use games area, some circular spinning seats and a youth shelter complete with solar powered radio.
Before the opening which took place at 9.30am the young people spent an hour litter picking the area so that it looked tidy and welcoming for the visitors.
The whole area will be a great asset to the community since it’s Village Hall burnt down a few years ago. The community continues to seek funding to replace the village Hall and hopes that the evidence of need for a Village Hall identified in the plan will eventually help them to achieve their original aim as well.
